PDF Page Labels

Books and reports often number the preface i, ii, iii and the main text 1, 2, 3. Page labels make PDF viewers show those numbers instead of the plain page count.

How to set page labels

  1. Select the PDF.
  2. Add ranges: choose the first page, a style (decimal, Roman numerals, letters or none), an optional prefix and a start number.
  3. Check the label every page will get in the table.
  4. Press Save page labels (or Save without page labels to remove them) and download the PDF.

Key features

  • Decimal, upper- and lowercase Roman numerals and letters, or prefix only.
  • Prefixes such as “A-” for appendices.
  • Everything else in the file stays unchanged.

Supported files and limits

  • Labels change what viewers display; they don't print numbers on the page. To print numbers, use Add Page Numbers.
  • Some simple viewers ignore page labels.
  • Protected PDFs are refused.

How your files are handled

PDF Page Labels runs in your browser: your file is read and processed on your device and the result is created there, so documents aren't uploaded to a server. The site only counts anonymous page views, without cookies. How it works · Privacy
