iHateTool

How it works

iHatePDFTool runs its PDF tools in your web browser instead of on a server. Here is what happens when you use one.

  1. Choose a tool and a filePick a tool and select a PDF (or images for JPG/PNG to PDF). Your browser reads the file from your device; nothing is uploaded.
  2. It's processed on your deviceThe PDF is read and changed by code running in your browser tab, using the open-source PDF libraries pdf-lib and PDF.js. Heavier work runs in background workers so the page stays responsive.
  3. The result is checkedMany tools reopen what they produced and compare it with the original — pages, sizes, text, links, bookmarks or form fields — before offering it. If a check fails, you get a message instead of a broken file.
  4. You download itThe new file is created in your browser and saved with its normal download function. Starting over, closing the tab or leaving the page discards everything.

What this means for you

  • No account and no upload: the website only delivers the tools; your documents never travel to it.
  • Speed depends on your device. Very large files need more memory, and some tools set size limits so your browser doesn't run out of it.
  • The site itself still has to load from ihatepdftool.com; it isn't an app that works without a connection.
  • Some features need a secure (HTTPS) connection and a current browser. The tools are tested in current Chrome.
